fIGHTING HUMAN-TRAFFICKING IN HOSPITALITY & SPORTS
// MOSFED’S ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING TRAINING //
Over the years, human trafficking has seen an alarming increase during large-scale sporting events. These events are major drivers of demand for commercial sex. Events, such as the annual Super Bowl and the Kentucky Derby, attract a high volume of people and wealth, including human traffickers, who use these events to recruit, obtain, transfer, transport, and harbor vulnerable women and children.
Many states in the USA, including the State of New York, recognize the growing threat these events pose to the potential victims of human trafficking, which is why there has been a major focus on anti-human trafficking training in the hospitality sector and sports industry. Lawmakers and law enforcement realize that the hospitality sector plays a huge role in combating human trafficking. Client-facing employees, therefore, should be trained with the proper tools to recognize general indicators and protocols to report human trafficking, as they are usually the ones who are likely to come into contact with their guests at the facility. These employees can be one of the greatest first lines of defense against human trafficking if equipped with the proper training.
At MOSAIC Federation (MOSFED) we take a collaborative approach by working with lawmakers, law enforcement, and the private sector. MOSFED's skilled investigators, human rights activists, and anti-human trafficking practitioners have devised a special anti-human trafficking training program to address the needs of the private and public actors to combat human trafficking.
