SAFE SURFIN’ FOUNDATION

Founded by MOSFED’s Trustee and Advisor Sheriff Mike Brown, The Safe Surfin’ Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit Cyber Safety and Responsibility educational initiative. The initiative was created by law enforcement professionals in 1998 and has since then been dedicated to protecting youth online from harmful predators by proactively educating them in the safe and responsible use of today’s changing technologies.

House Bill 1575

The Safe Surfin’ Foundation has made a huge leap forward in online safety for the State of Virginia! The Foundation contributed to the drafting of House Bill 1575, which has already been introduced to Virginia’s Legislature. House Bill 1575 makes internet safety a priority by mandating public schools to provide internet safety at least once a year for elementary and secondary schools.

- Implement the SWAT education program (beginning the 2024-2025 school year).

- Elementary and secondary schools to provide such SWAT education program at least once each school year to students in grades 3-12.

- Make the SWAT education program and any accompanying instructional materials and resources available to all local school boards before the start of the 2024–2025.

SAFE SURFIN’S CYBER S.W.A.T.

In conjunction with the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), the Foundation has developed a curriculum-based program called Cyber S.W.A.T. meant to empower kids to use Safety White Accessing Technology. The program’s facilitators use the curriculum to educate children about online safety and tackle challenging issues such as bullying, online predators, and other online risks.
